Modern Foreign Languages

The Modern Languages Department is a team of experienced, highly skilled linguists.

We work as a team to ensure that the students’ experience of learning a language at Sheringham High School is not only an educational but also an enjoyable, enriching experience.

We try to offer a range of other opportunities for our students to use and enhance their language skills as well as to enrich their experiences of other cultures. Students can be paired with a penfriend from one of our French or German partner schools and we often exchange work with students from these schools.

Other opportunities which students have undertaken include taking part in the Norfolk Speech Competition at Wymondham College and entering The Stephen Spender Prize competition for poetry in translation.

Our students were also short listed as regional finalists in a competition for poetry in a foreign language called 'Mother Tongue, Other Tongue', organised by Routes Into Languages.

As part of the SMSC days, we're off on our day trip to Boulogne again next year. This is a real highlight for Year 7s and having spent two terms learning French, it is an excellent opportunity to try out some of their language skills.

Music for Mental Health

Two great young artists Asher Knight & Luena Martinez are visiting Sheringham High on Monday 15th October.
Currently supporting "Steps" on their tour and signed to the record label created by the band members of "Phats & Small”,
the artists were bullied at school and have had their own battles with mental health issues so are in the
perfect position to be able to raise awareness on these issues and inspire young students through their music.
