SMSC Day 2 Information for Parents

SMSC DAY APRIL 26TH

Students are allowed to wear non-uniform clothes unless specifically instructed to do otherwise by the group leader. Students are expected to participate in a visit or to be in school, where there will be a full programme of activities. Students staying in school should arrive at normal time and to the places specified on the timetable below. Tutors will go through this information on the first morning after the Easter Holiday.

Parents should have received information about activities for years 7 and 8 participating in the trips to Boulogne and Parliament.

YEAR 7 STAYING IN SCHOOL

Students will be cooking and will do Artwork. This is a cultural day and will have a French theme.

YEAR 8 STAYING IN SCHOOL

Students will work with Mr Cartwright and his team and learn about how Parliament works. They will take part in debates and vote on an issue as if they were in Parliament. They will learn about how to present arguments and work on presentation skills, useful for all their GCSE examinations.

YEAR 9 STAYING IN SCHOOL

The year 9 SMSC day will be an exciting mix of workshops and interactive shows delivered by the Cambridge Science Centre and some challenging activities organised by the Science Department. The Cambridge Science Centre staff will lead explorations of three topics; the evolution of the eye in humans and other animals, an investigation of the science of ballistics in space travel, and the nature of light and how we use different wavelengths of the spectrum to learn more about our universe. The other activities organised in house will focus on team building and engineering using not much more than newspaper and spaghetti!

YEAR 10 STAYING IN SCHOOL

Maths in school. We will cover some of the sticky topics in the GCSE and gain familiarity with the style of exam questions all whilst competing for interesting prizes!

YEAR 11 STAYING IN SCHOOL

The English department will be providing an intense programme of revision for GCSE Literature.
