CURRICULUM (2020-21)

We aim to ensure that all students receive an education that is broadly based, relevant and tailored to fit the needs of the individual student.

In most subjects, students are taught in groups, which reflect their aptitude and ability. Students currently follow a 50-lesson fortnight with each lesson lasting one-hour.

In Years  9,10 & 11, students follow a common core curriculum, which is enhanced by option GCSE or vocational subjects chosen towards the end of Year 9.

Pathway 1

Core Course for all

Society & Ethics, Physical Education and Personal Social & Health Education and Careers.

Core subjects

English (Double GCSE), Maths (GCSE) and Science (‘Combined’/Double/ Triple Award GCSE).

Option subjects

 

 

 

 

 

 

All students in this Pathway will be expected to take a modern language, an humanity and two other subjects.  All courses offered are at GCSE or equivalent unless otherwise stated. 

Students choose;

  • a modern language: French
  •  an Humanity: History or Geography
  •  TWO of the following: Art, Design and Technology, Music, Sports Science, and Food Preparation and Nutrition, Business Studies, Creative Media Production and Health and Fitness.

These subjects are organised into 2 blocks with students choosing one from each block.

 We endeavour to meet all subject first or second choices but this cannot be guaranteed due to high demand in some subjects. Please note: where there is insufficient demand for a particular subject in Options 3 or 4, the course will not run.

Pathway 2

Core Course for all

Society & Ethics, Physical Education and Personal Social & Health Education and Careers.

Core subjects

English (Double GCSE), Maths (GCSE) and Science (‘Combined’/Double/ Triple Award GCSE).

All students are now judged in terms of the Attainment 8 and Progress 8 criteria and so we recommend that students make their choices accordingly.

You should choose ;

  • Child Development or Photography
  • Geography or History
  • TWO of the following: Art, Design and Technology, Music, Sports Science, and Food Preparation and Nutrition, Business Studies, Creative Media Production and Health and Fitness.
