  • Effects of exercise on the body systems
  • Components of fitness
  • Applying the principles of training

Practical activities – handball, basketball, athletics, fitness

Assessment will be in the form of GCSE past papers and essay based work

  • Know how the training methods target different fitness components
  • Be able to conduct fitness tests
  • Be able to develop fitness training programmes
  • Know the key components of the musculo-skeletal and cardio –respiratory system, their functions and roles
  • Understand the importance of the musculo-skeletal and cardio-respiratory systems in health and fitness
  • Be able to assess the short-term effects of physical activity on the musculo-skeletal and cardio-respiratory systems
  • Be able to assess the long-term effects of physical activity on the musculo-skeletal and cardio-respiratory system

Practical activities – Fitness, handball, there will be the options for open choice for their assessment 

Assessment will be based on witness statements from the class teacher, essays, presentations and video/photo evidence

Students will study the following content this year

  • Movement analysis
  • Preventing injury in physical activity and training
  • Sports psychology
  • Health fitness and wellbeing
  • They will write an AEP (Analysing and evaluating performance. This is 10% of final practical grade)

Students will be require to recall information from all units covered last year. There will be regular retrieval activities on new and old course material taught.
