Yr8 regional winners of STEM challenge

Two teams from Sheringham High competed in the Institute of Engineering and Technology Faraday Challenge event on Thursday 24th November.

Stem challenge 1

The challenge focused on the UK Land Rover BAR America’s Cup yachting team. It gave students the opportunity to research, design and make solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems in optimising human, boat and environmental performance.

The challenge was all about letting the students be creative and use their own problem solving skills to explore their capabilities as engineers. The winning team (Joel Philpott, Penny Othon, Kieran Cook, Joshua Keeble, Schindler Brown, Rudy Haywood), demonstrated superb teamwork, supporting each other in design, coding, building and presenting their concept.

The top three teams from across the UK will get an all expenses paid trip to the National Final in June 2017. This will be held at the HQ in Portsmouth, the focal point for the design, construction and development of the team’s boats and sports science and fitness facilities for the crew. They will compete for a cash prize of up to £1,000 for their school.

Good luck SHS team.
